Continuing a decade-long association with NASA’s Johnson Space Center Human Habitability Division & Langley Research Center, the mission of SEArch+ is to conceive, investigate, and produce innovative 'human-centered' designs which enable human beings to not only live, but thrive in space environments beyond Earth. 

Lunar Lantern

Lunar Lantern, a base concept developed by ICON as part of a NASA-supported project to build a sustainable outpost on the Moon.

This proposal is currently being showcased as part of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition at the La Biennale di Venezia museum in Venice, Italy. The Lunar Lantern emerged from Project Olympus, a research and development program made possible thanks to a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract and funding from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).

Mars X-House V1

X-House is the fourth prize winner of Virtual Design Level 1, 60% Design, within NASA’s Phase 3 Habitat Challenge. Prioritizing safety, redundancy, and the wellbeing of the crew above the Martian surface, Mars X-House seeks to exceed current radiation standards while safely connecting the crew to natural light and views to the Martian landscape.

Mars Ice Home

Mars Ice Home is a collaborative project with NASA Langley Research Center to develop a feasibility study for a habitat made of ice on Mars.

Pratt (XHab) Transit Habitat

In a challenge presented by NASA, Pratt architecture and industrial design students were inspired to address design concerns related to space travel. For an interdisciplinary studio class led by Adjunct Assistant Professor of Architecture Michael Morris and Adjunct Associate Professor of Industrial Design Rebeccah Pailes-Friedman, the students worked on the eXploration Habitat (X-Hab) 2016 Academic Innovation Challenge “Human Centered: Designs for the Mars Transit Habitat,” a NASA project collaboration with academic institutions to develop a transit habitat, or module, for the exploration of Mars.

Mars Ice House is the winner of NASA's Centennial Challenge for a 3D-Printed Habitat on Mars

Mars X-House V2

MARS X-HOUSE is the first place winner in 100% Virtual Design within NASA’s Phase 3 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge. MARS X HOUSE employs an evidence-based design process to introduce the design and constructability of a future habitat for a crew of four to live and work on Mars for the duration of one Earth year. MARS X HOUSE is designed to exceed radiation standards in order to ensure human health, and vitally connects the crew to natural light and views of the Martian landscape.
